Success Stories
I’m Derrel, from the First Nations, and I got connected with Watari through the Peers program. It’s been an amazing experience. Not only have they supported me, but I’ve also been able to get involved in running the program. Helping out and being a part of it has allowed me to grow and support others along the way.
My name is Damaris,
I had to leave my country behind and arrived here without knowing anyone. Watari became a lifeline, offering me the care and support I needed most at that time. They welcomed me warmly and gave me the opportunity to work in their community kitchen, which not only provided stability but also a sense of belonging. Thanks to their help, I found a home for my daughter and grandchild through BC Housing.
I was going through a difficult time mentally when I found help at Watari. From the beginning, I felt welcomed and understood. I received counseling services that gave me the support I needed to start healing. As a result of that experience, I decided to volunteer so I could give back and help others the way they helped me.
